Mobilizing Communities to Improve Healthcare in the DRC

Community participation is a cornerstone of effective healthcare delivery in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). The SEMI project has played a vital role in mobilising and formalising community health structures to improve primary healthcare service delivery and give communities a voice in their own healthcare. These structures, the Community Health Committees, or Comité de Développement Sanitaire in French (CODESA) and Community Animation Units, have been set up to act as intermediaries between local populations and the healthcare system, ensuring that health interventions align with community needs.
