M
any thanks go out to the Soroptimist International of Howard County for 20 years of support.
The club, based in Maryland, began working with IMA in 1996 after former CEO Paul Derstine and pharmacist Don Padgett spoke to the club about IMA’s work. The visit launched a relationship that began with members collecting basic medicines and supplies for our Village Dispensary Kits, which were used in rural villages in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Haiti, the Dominican Republic, Guatemala and Honduras.
In addition to providing hundreds of kits to those in need over the years, SI Howard County also gave nearly $75,000 in monetary donations along with baby layette items for our Safe Motherhood Kits™. Members also donated many precious hours to sorting supplies, cutting plastic and assembling SMKs in the New Windsor, Maryland warehouse.
Although the club has disbanded, having held their last meeting in June, we know the members will continue to have an enormous impact on the community and the world.
On behalf of everyone at IMA, we thank the members of SI Howard County for directing their kindness and generosity toward the people we serve around the world. For the past 20 years, their support of IMA comforted those who were sick and injured and helped provide safer deliveries for mothers and their babies. These gifts of health and life are truly priceless.
